In this study, the relations between learning styles and academic success of pre-service history teachers were examined. The study group of this research was comprised of 142 pre-service history teachers, who attended Bayburt University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of History in spring quarter of 2017-2018 academic year. "Grasha-Reichmann Learning Style Scale" was used in collection of data for the research. As per the academic success of the pre-service history teachers, averages of their four major area course grades were recorded. In the analysis of the research data, descriptive statistics, t-test for the independent groups, and multiple regression analysis were used. It was understood that the dominant learning styles of pre-service history teachers were, respectively, dependent, independent, participant, collaborator, avoidant, and competitive learning styles. Also, it was found that gender variable has not significant effect on pre-service history teachers’ learning style. In the regression analysis, it was discovered that the learning styles of pre-service history teachers are predictive for their academic success. Moreover, it was understood that only participant and competitive learning styles significantly predicted the academic success. In other words, learning styles of pre-service history teachers accounted for 28 % of academic success of the pre-service history teachers.

The study aims to promote relevant and effective environmental education (EE) through extracurricular clubs. For this, we studied the state of play of environmental activities (EA) carried out by 48 environmental clubs belonging to urban and rural areas of the Regional Academy of Education Fez-Meknes, Morocco. These extracurricular environmental clubs remain so far without formal environmental education programs. In this study, we identified the bulk of programs offered by extracurricular environment clubs, including types of scheduled activities and percentages of achievement and student beneficiaries in urban and rural settings. In addition, we have identified the main barriers to achieving certain environmental activities. The significant correlations detected between some of the variables studied allowed us to better explain the achievements and the weaknesses of these clubs. Finally, we have made recommendations to promote relevant and effective extracurricular environmental education.

The longitudinal changes of the average grades in four study semesters before and during the COVID-19 pandemic and distance learning are presented in the current study. 11th grade students’ (n=586; age M=17.38, SD=0.53) average grades were assessed, as well as their verbal and non-verbal reasoning abilities, and self-evaluations of problem-solving and self-management skills. The main findings of the study are: 1) There is a general pattern for the grades to increase during the four semesters from the autumn 2019 to the spring 2021; 2) The general tendency of changes in the grades is similar to various students’ groups based on their level of skills; 3) Higher level of students’ skills and cognitive abilities determined that students’ grades were higher and were more likely to increase during the “second wave of the pandemic”, compared to the middle and low-level skill groups. Results of the current study show a tendency for the average grades to increase during the pandemic and distance learning, however, there are group differences in the findings, relating the grade level to the individual level of students’ skills and abilities.

The focus of this article is to analyze the distribution patterns of student grades over time for different subjects and by gender. Specifically, we examined the final term grades of upper secondary students in Portuguese public schools across four subjects (Mathematics, Portuguese Language, Philosophy, and Physical Education) from the academic years 2013-2014 to 2017-2018. These grades reflect the teachers' perceptions of the students' knowledge gained throughout the academic year. We expected to see some regularity in the grade distributions over time for a particular subject. However, we found that the similarity of grades across subjects and time was so striking that differences were barely noticeable by visual inspection. Due to the very large sample sizes (in the order of tens of thousands), the quantification of similarities and dissimilarities was done through distribution’s proximity statistics and not by classic statistical methods, like Chi-Square or comparison of means tests. Additionally, we applied a methodology of multiple equivalence tests to globally compare the relative frequencies of each of the grades in pairs of independent samples. Our analysis showed that there was a high level of similarity in grades for the same subject over time, but we also found differences between subjects and between genders.
